The Mackinaw Coat went through many iterations between the 1st and 2nd world wars. Leather versions, heavy wool versions, duck canvas versions, and this brilliantly woven cotton twill version. An original duck canvas option was deemed too rigid, and so a lighter cotton ‘West Point Uniform Twill’ was specially made to break in subtly as it is worn. Shortly after the Second World War, this coat disappeared from circulation, but its classic design and timeless silhouette have endured through the generations. This hip length coat has been fully lined with a high grade, 26oz blanket wool which provides thermal protection from the elements.

The large shawl style collar design allows the wool to provide essential warmth against the neck, and for storage, two wool lined flap pockets are featured on the front. A double breasted opening is lined with military spec urea buttons which have been custom made for this model, while a buckled waistband allow the shape to be cinched in for the perfect fit, and the cuffs feature a buttoned tab to tighten at the wrist. This rare style of jacket really is a sight to see, but to wear it is something more entirely. The quality and feel of this coat have made this one of our favourite winter options here at Son of a Stag.
