Buzz Rickson's

Buzz Rickson's Submariner Clothing Winter Woolen Coat (Grey)

£599

This ‘Submariners’ coat from Buzz Rickson’s has been crafted from a heavy 30oz worsted wool which has been woven into a beautifully slubby wide herringbone pattern. This jacket boasts a simple shape which was originally designed in the pre-war period to be used Be used by sailors on U.S. Naval submarines. At the time there wasn’t much need for these specially made jackets as there weren’t many submarines, but the simple design has proved to be a timeless symbol of the versatile clothing that the military produces. The generous shape of this coat allows it to be easily worn over several layers, and is heavy but not too heavy to drape nicely over time. The simple pocket design adds to the basic functionality, while the button plate is made up of 6 military spec urea buttons, covering contrast brown stitched buttonholes. The collar has an added chunky collar tab which can be easily buttoned up to hold it in place, protecting the neck from winds and chills. The pocket flaps and cuffs have been faced with a 100% cotton which is soft and black in colour. The inside boasts a ‘U.S. Navy Uniform’ label which has been carefully reproduced by the brand on vintage shuttle looms. This rare design has not trickled into daily civilian life in the same way as the Pea Coat, but its functional design and quality materials offer something different for those more willing to take a walk off of the beaten path. As a final touch of vintage authenticity, this coat has been assembled using vintage American sewing machines.
